The news
TSMC reported third-quarter revenue of NT$1,494 billion, about US$46.7 billion, up 41.2 percent year on year in dollars, with a gross margin of 66.4 percent, according to its results filing. It guided fourth-quarter revenue to 52.3 to 54.3 billion dollars.
Why it matters
A day after ASML said it cannot build enough tools for 2027 and 2028, the factory at the other end of the chain says orders are still accelerating. The AI build-out's weak point is financing, not demand.
The details
The two-nanometre process, in volume production since late 2025, made up 8 percent of wafer revenue, and three-nanometre 33 percent. The chief financial officer cited the steep ramp of two-nanometre technology, which also diluted gross margin by 1.3 points from the second quarter.
The results did not stop a global chip-stock selloff the same week, driven by rising bond yields and worries about how AI data centres are financed.
